What is "Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher"?
Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher is a superb new program for teaching and learning language through exposure to vocabulary in context. It provides a list of keywords, each of which is linked to a number of sentences which illustrate how the word is used. The user can search and edit these sentences, and add more keywords or sentences of their own. And with a couple of mouse-clicks, users can choose a sequence of sentences, and build them into a complete language exercise.
Who is it designed for?
This program is suitable for second-language English students from an intermediate to advanced level, or for native English speakers in junior high or senior high school.
Teachers can use the program to teach vocabulary in context, review and reinforce vocabulary, create tests, etc. Students can increase their vocabulary by examining new words in context, or even by creating random word gap exercises to test their knowledge of vocabulary. Included among the headwords are the most frequently used words in academia, as well as the vocabulary contained in the Academic Word List, as developed at the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies at Victoria University of Wellington.
The English Usage Database
The program comes complete with an enormous database of English language usage - more than 30,000 sentences illustrating over 2,200 keywords, assembled by Gerry for his own teaching over several years. It is an excellent resource for teachers and students - teachers can use it to create illustrations and exercises around English words, and students can use it to test and improve their word-power.

The program also provides all the tools needed to add more keywords and sentences, edit the ones which are already there, and build whole new databases for different languages. You can import material from external files, as well as entering it directly into the program.
